Getting started

11 questions
Is there a cricket club in Malmö?

Yes. Malmö Kings Cricket Club is a non-profit cricket club in Malmö, founded in 2016. We have junior and adult players, play T20 league cricket in the Swedish Cricket Federation Superettan and train all year round: indoors in winter and outdoors from the last week of March to September.

Do I need any cricket experience to join?

No. Beginners of every age are welcome. Coaches start from the basics and explain everything step by step in Swedish or English, and you can borrow club equipment for your first sessions. Our New to cricket page explains the game in plain language.

How do I join Malmö Kings?

It takes three steps. Fill in the online membership form, pay the yearly fee to Bankgiro 5155-0267, and a club coordinator confirms your registration and tells you when and where your first session is.

Can I try a training session before I join?

Yes. Contact us first and we will tell you where and when to come. If you enjoy the session, you can then register through the membership form.

What should I bring to my first session?

Comfortable sports clothes, trainers with good grip and a water bottle. Outdoors, bring a warm layer, and in summer sun protection and a cap. You do not need any cricket equipment: beginners borrow the club’s bats, pads, gloves and helmets.

Do I need to be fit to start playing cricket?

No. Cricket suits every fitness level and you get fitter as you play. Every session starts with a warm-up and builds up gradually.

Am I too old to start playing cricket?

No. Adults can start at any age. Cricket has roles for many fitness levels and you decide how hard you want to train. Many adults join for the nets, the exercise and the community without playing league matches.

Do I need to speak Swedish?

No. Our coaches and members speak Swedish and English, and many speak other languages too. Everyone is welcome, whatever their level of Swedish.

Can girls and women play at Malmö Kings?

Yes. Girls are welcome at every youth session, and women are welcome to play, coach or volunteer, just like boys and men.

Is the club only for people from cricket-playing countries?

Not at all. Players of every background are welcome, including Swedish-born children and adults who have never seen a cricket match. Our players and families come from many countries, and that mix is part of what makes the club special.

Can I join if I live in Lund, Lomma or elsewhere in Skåne?

Yes. Players from Malmö and nearby towns such as Lund, Lomma, Burlöv, Staffanstorp, Vellinge and Trelleborg are welcome, and so are new players from the rest of Skåne.

Membership and fees

8 questions
Who can become a member?

Anyone who wants to be part of the club: children, youth, adult players, parents, supporters and volunteers from Malmö and the rest of Skåne. You do not need any cricket experience.

How much does membership cost?

The yearly membership fee is 95 SEK up to 7 years old, 500 SEK for ages 7 to 16 and 2,000 SEK from 16 years and above. See Membership for the full details.

What does the membership fee pay for?

The fees go to training equipment that members share, such as balls, bats, pads and helmets, and to youth activities, uniforms, matches and ground hire for training and home matches.

How do I pay the membership fee?

Pay to Bankgiro 5155-0267 (SEB, account holder Malmö Kings Cricket Club) and write the member’s full name as the payment reference. The SEB account number is 5502 104 89 53. From abroad, use IBAN SE86 5000 0000 0550 2104 8953 and BIC ESSESESSXXX.

When is my membership confirmed?

Once the form is sent and the fee is paid, a club coordinator confirms your registration and tells you when and where the next training session is.

How do I register my child?

Fill in the membership form with your child’s details and choose the right age group. For players under 18, a parent or guardian adds their name and phone number. Then pay the fee with your child’s full name as the reference.

Which personal details do you ask for, and how are they used?

The membership form asks for name, date of birth, address, phone, email, an emergency contact and, for players under 18, a parent or guardian. We use them for your registration and payment, and personal data is processed under the EU GDPR. Consent to club photos and videos is a separate tick box in the form.

Does the club have a code of conduct?

Yes. Every member accepts the club’s code of conduct and safety rules when they register. If problems come up, leaders talk with the player, and with the parents of younger children, to find a way forward. Respect for others is not negotiable.

Changing clubs

4 questions
I am moving from another club. What do I need?

Choose that you are changing club in the membership form and upload your NOC (No Objection Certificate) from your previous club in the same form.

What is an NOC?

An NOC (No Objection Certificate) is a confirmation from your previous club that it has no objection to you moving. You need one if you move to Malmö Kings from another Swedish club.

Does it cost anything to change clubs?

It depends on when you move. Under the Swedish Cricket Federation competition rules for 2026, club transfers were free from 1 December to 15 January, and a fee of 1,000 SEK applied from 16 January to 31 March. Read the SCF competition rules 2026 (PDF, in Swedish) and check the rules for the season you are moving in.

Can I play league matches in my first season?

Yes, if you are registered with the club and selected. New players usually start with training and friendlies, and the selection committee picks league teams on form, attendance and the balance the team needs.

Children and youth

11 questions
Is there cricket for children in Malmö?

Yes. Malmö Kings runs youth cricket for children and teenagers, with weekly training led by adult coaches. The youngest play with soft balls, and teenagers move on to the hard ball with full protective kit. Read more about youth cricket.

From what age can my child start?

Children of all ages are welcome. Our youngest group is for children up to 7 years old, and we group players by age and level so everyone learns at the right pace.

What does youth cricket cost?

The yearly membership fee is 95 SEK for children up to 7 years old and 500 SEK for ages 7 to 16. Equipment can be borrowed, so there is nothing you need to buy first.

Is cricket safe for children?

Yes, when it is coached the right way. Every youth session is led by adult leaders and starts with a warm-up. Beginners and younger children use softer balls, and helmets, pads and gloves are worn when batting or keeping wicket against a hard ball. Emergency contacts and any medical notes are collected at registration.

Who coaches the children?

Youth sessions are led by adult coaches from the club under Head Coach Shahid Aslam. Our Youth Lead, Hussain Cheema, sits on the board and coordinates the youth programme, the training schedule and safeguarding.

Does my child need a helmet?

Yes, when batting or keeping wicket against a hard ball. Beginners who train with softer balls do not need one at the start, and club helmets are available to borrow.

Can parents watch training?

Yes. Parents are always welcome to watch training and to talk to the coaches before or after the session.

How often should my child train?

Once a week is a good start for most children. As players get more involved, many choose to come more often during the season. Contact us for the current training days and times for your child’s age.

Can young players play real matches?

Yes, as they develop. Talented juniors already play in our senior T20 team: in 2026 one of our 15-year-old bowlers took 13 league wickets, including a hat-trick.

My child is shy. Will they fit in?

Yes. Coaches give new and quieter children extra attention, let them train with friendly teammates and build up at their own pace. Most new players start without knowing anyone.

How can parents help?

Parents can help on match days and at events, drive players to away matches, assist at youth training or support the club with administration. No cricket experience is needed, and it is a great way to get to know other families.

Yes. From October to March we train indoors at DR Cricket Academy in Malmö. Indoor nets are ideal for technique work, because the surface and bounce are consistent whatever the weather.

What happens in a net session?

A net is an enclosed lane where a batter can face real bowling safely. Bowlers work on line, length and variations, batters practise their shots and defence, and coaches give feedback between deliveries. Sessions usually also include fielding drills, catching practice and fitness work.

When does the cricket season start?

Outdoor training starts in the last week of March. Swedish Cricket Federation league matches are played in the summer: in 2026 our T20 league matches ran from July to September. The federation publishes the match schedule before the season starts (in 2026 it was published by 28 February).

Do you train at the club address?

No. Amiralsgatan 86E in Malmö is the club’s office and postal address, with visits by appointment. Training and matches take place at Lindängen, Limhamnsfältet and DR Cricket Academy.

Can I come and watch a match?

Equipment

4 questions
Do I need my own cricket equipment?

No. New players can borrow bats, pads, gloves and helmets from the club for their first sessions. Many players buy their own bat, gloves and pads once they know they want to continue.

What equipment is used in cricket?

A bat with an English or Kashmir willow blade and a cane handle, a hard leather ball, and three stumps with two bails at each end of the 20-metre pitch. Batters wear a helmet with a steel grille, padded batting gloves and leg pads, and the wicket-keeper wears gloves to catch the ball.

What kind of ball do you play with?

Matches are played with a hard leather ball with a stitched seam. T20 and other limited-overs cricket use a white ball. Children and beginners start with softer balls.

Which protective gear does a batter wear?

A helmet with a peak, steel grille and neck guard, batting gloves with padded finger rolls and a thumb guard, and leg pads with a knee roll that protect the shins and knees.

Cricket basics

8 questions
How does a game of cricket work?

Two teams of 11 take turns to bat and to bowl and field. The batting team scores runs, and the fielding team tries to get the batters out. In short formats like T20 each team bats once for a fixed number of overs, and the team with the most runs wins. Our New to cricket page explains it all.

What is T20 cricket?

T20 is the short format in which each team bats for a maximum of 20 overs. A match usually takes around three hours, including the break between innings. It is the format of our Superettan league.

What is an over?

An over is six legal deliveries bowled by one bowler from the same end. After each over, a different bowler bowls from the other end.

How do you score runs?

Batters score runs by running between the wickets after hitting the ball. A shot that reaches the boundary is worth four runs, or six if the ball clears the boundary without bouncing.

How can a batter get out?

The most common ways are bowled (the ball hits the stumps), caught (a fielder catches the ball before it bounces), leg before wicket (LBW), run out and stumped.

What do batter, bowler, all-rounder and wicket-keeper mean?

Batters specialise in scoring runs and bowlers in taking wickets. All-rounders do both, and the wicket-keeper stands behind the stumps to catch the ball and stump batters. Everyone fields.

Who makes the rules of cricket?

The Laws of Cricket are maintained by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), and each competition adds its own playing conditions, such as the number of overs.

What is the Spirit of Cricket?

It is the part of the Laws of Cricket that describes how the game should be played: with respect, fair play and self-discipline towards opponents, umpires and teammates. It is a core value at Malmö Kings.

Sponsorship

7 questions
Can my company sponsor Malmö Kings?

Yes. We offer four yearly packages from 10,000 to 50,000 SEK, and we are happy to tailor one to your goals. See the sponsorship packages.

What do the sponsorship packages include?

Silver (10,000 SEK a year): your logo and a link on our website. Gold (20,000 SEK): also your logo on the club training T-shirts. Platinum (30,000 SEK): also your logo on the official match uniform. Royal Partner (50,000 SEK): your logo on all playing and training wear and equipment, and your roll-up banner at every club event.

How does sponsorship payment work?

After your enquiry we send a sponsor agreement and an invoice. You pay against the invoice with your company name as the reference, and your logo goes live once payment is received.

How long does a sponsorship last?

All packages are per year, which means one season. We are happy to discuss longer agreements.

Can we sponsor equipment or the youth programme instead of money?

Yes. We welcome equipment sponsorship, such as bats, balls, helmets, pads and kit, and support for youth registrations, coach education and training camps. Contact us first and we will tell you what the club needs most.

Who will see our brand?

Players, families, opponents and spectators at training sessions, home matches at Limhamnsfältet and club events, plus visitors to our website and social media.

Who are the club’s current partners?

Malmö Kings is supported by Sweden Relocators AB (immigration services), Future Concerns (manpower services) and Relofy Tech (software solutions). There are open partner spots for new sponsors.

Volunteering

5 questions
Can I help the club without playing?

Yes. A non-profit club runs on volunteers. You can assist coaches at youth sessions, score or umpire, help on match days, organise events, take photos for social media or support the board with administration and sponsorship.

Do I need cricket experience to volunteer?

No. Many tasks need no cricket knowledge at all, such as helping at events, with communication or with administration. For coaching, scoring and umpiring, we help you learn.

How much time do I need to give?

As much or as little as suits you. Some volunteers help every week, others at a few match days or events each season.

How do I sign up as a volunteer?

Use the contact form and choose Volunteering as the topic, or email info@malmokings.cc. Tell us what you would like to do and when you are available.

What do volunteers get out of it?

Volunteering is a great way to meet people, practise Swedish, build your network in Malmö and gain experience that looks good on a CV. The best reward is often seeing young players grow in skill and confidence.
