Integration through cricket
For many families who have moved to Malmö, cricket is a familiar sport from home. For Swedish-born children it is a new adventure. On our ground they meet as teammates.
What it means at Malmö Kings
Integration happens best when people do something together. In a team, background matters less than effort and attitude. Parents get to know each other on the sidelines, volunteers from different communities work side by side, and young people build friendships that last beyond the season.
Integration through cricket at Malmö Kings
A familiar sport in a new country
Cricket is one of the most followed sports in countries such as India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, England and Australia. For many families who have moved to Malmö, finding a cricket club means finding something familiar.
At the same time, Swedish-born children discover an exciting new game, and the two groups meet as equals on the field.
Learning how Swedish föreningsliv works
Malmö Kings is an ideell förening, a non-profit association run by its members. Members elect the board at the annual meeting, volunteers share the work and decisions are made together.
Taking part in a förening is a practical way for newcomers to understand Swedish democracy, the tradition of volunteering and the idea that everyone contributes.
Language, networks and belonging
Training happens in Swedish and English, and young players often help each other translate. Parents meet other families on the sidelines, share tips about school, work and life in Malmö, and build networks that reach far beyond cricket.
For many, the club becomes a second home in the city.
Common questions
Do I need to speak Swedish to join?
No. Our coaches and members speak Swedish and English, and many speak other languages too. Everyone is welcome, whatever their language level.
Is the club only for people from cricket-playing countries?
Not at all. Players of every background are welcome, including Swedish-born children and adults who have never seen a cricket match. The mix of backgrounds is part of what makes the club special.
How can parents get involved?
Parents can help at training, on match days and at events, or support the club with administration and communication. Contact us and tell us how you would like to help.
