Teamwork & discipline

Cricket is played as one team of eleven. Batters run for each other, bowlers work in partnerships and every fielder has a role. Nobody wins alone.

What it means at Malmö Kings

Cricket is known as the gentleman’s game for a reason: respect and fair play are part of its tradition. At Malmö Kings we expect players to shake hands, accept decisions and encourage each other. Older players act as role models, and young players gradually take on responsibility such as leading warm-ups or helping younger groups.

  • Listening to coaches and captains and following a game plan
  • Supporting teammates on good days and bad days
  • Respecting opponents, umpires and the laws of the game
  • Arriving on time, looking after equipment and helping the club
In depth

Teamwork & discipline at Malmö Kings

Eleven players, one team

A cricket match can only be won together. Batters form partnerships and must trust each other when running between the wickets. Bowlers depend on fielders to take catches and stop runs, while the wicket-keeper and captain keep everyone connected.

Young players quickly learn that their own performance matters most when it helps the team.

The Spirit of Cricket

The Laws of Cricket, maintained by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), open with a preamble on the Spirit of Cricket: respect for opponents, teammates, umpires and the traditions of the game.

We teach these values from the very first session. Players shake hands after matches, accept the umpire’s decision without argument and applaud good play from both sides.

Discipline that helps in everyday life

Turning up on time, bringing your kit, listening during instructions and helping to set up and pack away equipment are small habits with big effects. Over a season, these routines build responsibility.

Older youth players get chances to help younger groups, which teaches patience and leadership.

FAQ

Common questions

What is the Spirit of Cricket?

It is the part of the Laws of Cricket that describes how the game should be played: with respect, fair play and self-discipline. It covers how players treat opponents, umpires and each other, and it is a core value at Malmö Kings.

What happens if a player does not follow the code of conduct?

All members accept the club’s code of conduct when they register. If problems come up, leaders talk with the player, and with parents for younger children, to find a way forward. Respect for others is not negotiable.

Do children need to know the rules before joining?

No. We teach the rules step by step during training and in small matches. Our New to Cricket page explains the basics if you want a head start.
